Associate Director, Recruiting

Galileo is looking for a performance-driven Associate Director of Recruiting to join our People Operations leadership team, and to be our in-house, strategic talent acquisition, paid channels, and recruitment operations visionary and executor.

We value divergent thinkers who bring various experiences and viewpoints to the table at Galileo. We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups and people of diverse backgrounds to apply.

Who are you?

  • You are inspired by Galileo’s mission and purpose. Innovation education, project-based learning, and working in a professional, welcoming, deeply camp-inspired environment should sound like things you’re ready to explore or sign up for.

  • You’re a performance-driven, deeply accountable, data-hungry strategist. Problem-solving makes you downright giddy and coming up with new strategies to challenging problems makes you even more giddy. You look at the details of your work through a lens of optimization, measurement and efficiency and feel responsible for getting things done.

  • You love working on talent acquisition. You have experience building bustling pipelines of great candidates at volume.  You consistently seek out and learn the latest and greatest ideas in finding great people and you believe in the potential of all people.

  • You’re a leader — a servant leader — at heart. You treat all who rely on your work as clients, and have a desire to support and maximize the potential of your team and colleagues, both personally and professionally.

  • You’re an adept time manager. You have a keen sense of what needs your focus, and when to switch gears from detail management to strategic vision.

  • You can color outside the lines. You like to refine and improve existing systems, but are also a creative problem-solver who isn’t afraid to try new solutions to age-old challenges of all altitudes and varieties.

Who are we?

At Galileo, we believe the world needs innovators and that innovation can be taught. We also think kids who learn to explore and who are willing to tackle challenges despite their fears are happier, more creative and more confident when faced with life’s challenges. And we think kids with these skills are more likely to change our world and be the masters of their own.

It takes a village to bring best-in-class educational programs to tens of thousands of kids each year online and in-person. Each of our employees takes personal responsibility for bringing our values to life and to make our company and culture better. Here, values aren’t just lip service — we aim to be visionary, courageous, collaborative, determined and reflective each day, and back that effort up with structure to ensure our success. People who joyfully work hard together, seek feedback to improve themselves, feel deeply accountable for their work, are mission driven, and play well with others tend to thrive in our culture.

We’re a certified B Corp, were recently ranked #1 on the Best Places to Work in the Bay Area (and have been on the list for twelve plus years running), have been named one of Forbes’ Best Small Companies in America, and over 97% of our summer staff say they would recommend working for us. Joining Galileo means joining an organization that is a model of innovative learning, with a company-wide commitment to Inclusion and Diversity, broadening our impact and a stellar staff experience

What’s the team like?

The People Operations team is not your average Human Resources department. You’ll be on a team that approaches everything—from the way we attract and select candidates to the quality of service and the benefits offered to our employees—in a way that reflects the pride we take in hiring and retaining exceptional staff teams.

Position Description

What’s the job, really?

We’re looking for a people-focused Associate Director of Recruiting who is both visionary and a deft executor, ready to greet a large-scale hiring operation with eagerness. Essential responsibilities include managing multiple channels of recruiting, from university recruiting to paid channels and for seasonal and year-round staff roles as we continue to grow in existing and new geographies each year.

  • You’ll create and execute the plan to find great seasonal and year-round staff (in large numbers) to join the Galileo team and will be accountable to the application and cost-per-hire targets we need each year. Your work will help bring in over 3,200 summer staff, 20-40 Camp Directors and several HQ positions across the Bay Area, Southern California, Chicago, Seattle and D.C. annually, in collaboration with our Territory Directors.
    • You’ll manage recruiting operations, including optimizing online recruitment strategies and channels, managing vendors and agencies, and helping build out our campus recruiting and strategic partnerships strategies.
    • You’ll manage talent acquisition: you think creatively about all the ways we can target sourcing to cultivate talent, whether it’s by geography or candidate profile, whether it’s early career or more seasoned roles and whether it’s for a handful or hundreds of hires.  You’ll also be the holder of the candidate experience.

  • You’ll obsess over data and use it to understand what’s working and not working, measure progress toward goals and adjust course as needed. You’ll regularly communicate metrics headlines and hiring progress to hiring team members and the greater company.

  • You’ll lead, support, collaborate and develop. You will lead and manage a team of 2-4, leveraging high expectations and thoughtful support to push your team to greatness. You will also collaborate a lot— primarily with your peers who lead marketing, recruiting operations and staff selection as well as hiring managers, other teams across Galileo and external partners.

  • You’ll contribute to the short and long-term vision of the People Operations team. You will be part of the leadership team on the People Operations team and help refine and expand the vision for how the team will maximize opportunities and execute with excellence in the midst of national growth. You will report to the VP, People.

What are we looking for?

  • 3+ years in a talent acquisition or recruiting operations role, especially experience with program management and using multiple sourcing techniques to identify qualified and diverse candidates at scale. Sourcing experience with educators, college students and/or seasonal roles at volume a plus.

  • 3+ years of people-oriented management experience and leadership: people want to work with you and for you.

  • Experience and a love for using data to drive strategies and plans.

  • Experience managing vendors and recruiting campaigns, including cost negotiation.

  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling systems, with a lens towards creative problem solving.

  • A desire to work for a mission-driven organization.

  • The ability to collaborate closely with others and operate as both a manager and individual contributor.

  • Knowledge of systems/channels such as iCIMS, Indeed, Appcast, LinkedIn, Handshake a plus.

  • Readiness to stick around; we've been named one of The Best Places to Work in the Bay Area for ten consecutive years, and find that our team and team members benefit from a 2-year minimum commitment.
